Special Events Magazine Article about Event Planners who Blog
So I just received my copy of the Special Events Magazine, and flipped through the pages and saw an article about special event planners who blog. It is very apparent that blogging is completely new to the special event planners' world and it should be interesting to see what new blogs suddenly pop up from someone reading this article.
I've had a few event planners tell me that they wanted to do a blog, but were too scared they'd say something wrong. I have actually owned a blog (under a different name) since blogger.com first opened, and maybe because I come from a generation that used forums to find their true loves, then Friendster to stay in touch with friends, then Myspace & Youtube to connect with the world around them, and next is Jumpcut to develop the average joe into a filmmaker, I love the fact that people are going to read my opinions and see my work, then either love me or hate me. Or at the very best, try to understand me and make a connection.
So, to all you event planners out there scared to let your hair down on the Internet, let me pave the way. Here's MY opinion about the blogs the Special Events magazine featured and their creators. Feel free to give me your opinions or show off your blog, if you have one.
The Party Goddess - LA Event Planner. This chick types too much. And definitely self-promotes too much. Has some outdated and or obvious resources...maybe because she's too busy out getting paid? Eh. NEXT.
Shackman Associates - NY Destination Mgmt & Event Planner. The blog is all about their picks for New York and is displayed neatly, with some nice pictures and links on where to go to New York. Their self-promotion is more savvy and less intrusive, with giveaways that you'd actually want and a few links to their website. BOOKMARK, no RSS feed.
Sue Pelletier / Face2Face - Editor of Associations Magazine. Sue posts everything that doesn't make it into the magazine here. Sometimes it's a little campy, but she usually has information about new trends in the industry that I find useful. BOOKMARK, no RSS feed.
Patti Shock - Professor at UNLV. She basically just takes what other people have written and throws it up as a digest on her blog. Kind of boring, but I'd RSS this to save myself time from hours of reading online, but she has it only set-up for bloglines. RSS - Oh wait. I can't.
