San Pedro Skatepark Fundraiser

flyer-1">
I absolutely LOVE the San Pedro Skatepark Association and the guys behind it. They took a piece of unused land underneath the 110 freeway, got together and built a gnarly concrete skatepark with their bare hands (and some borrowed machines). The city got behind the park, the skate community can't stop skating and photographing it, artists and girlies hang out sometimes to shred or to make the place look good...kids get in the way or make the old guys look older...

The SPSA is projecting Santa Cruz's new release V-Day tonight, the event is free but they'll be passing around a jug for you to throw in some money or you can support by buying one of their awesome t-shirts. Stop by and join in the fun.

E! Hosts Eco-Friendly Golden Green Party

I was very excited to hear that the director of special events and promotions for E! Entertainment, Wendy Schellinger, decided to throw an eco-friendly event at the Golden Globes! Not only that, but she partnered with a unique non-profit, Environmental Media Association, whose mission is to make Hollywood go green.

However, the reviews that I read were a bit disappointing - it seems that the event production team came up a bit short in hosting guests at the expense of being green. The venue was outdoors, and there were no heat lamps to provide warmth. Perhaps there were environmental considerations that stopped the much needed lamps from coming, but I find it hard to believe that there were no other alternatives that to leave guests in the cold. Tenting, fireplaces, or even luxe, handmade blankets from a local vendor could have at least insulated natural body heat and provided a unique atmosphere for the night.

It just goes to say, helping the environment and promoting a green lifestyle at events is wonderful...but the guests must always come first! And, really, who'd want to be green if it meant frostbite in LA?

But, of course, there are many stellar points about this Green Party:
1. Exposure for eco-friendly events to the media.
2. Take a look at that wonderful press wall!! It's made out of wood salvaged from the Great Salt Lake’s historic Lucin Cutoff. Very creative.
3. Tree People planted a tree for every guest that attended.
