Food Processing

The first bit of TV I watch today was on the Sundance Channel: OUR DAILY BREAD, a documentary from director Nikolaus Geyrhalter about what goes on behind the processed foods we eat. Gnarly.

Mission Organic 2010

People are always asking me how I stay so skinny - I swear it's because of the organic food. But staying trim from whole foods is not the only benefit you can get from eating organic food...Mission Organic 2010 puts a challenge out to boost your diet by pledging to eat 10% organic. The result? Less pesticides, cleaner water, air & milk, and more...

E! Hosts Eco-Friendly Golden Green Party

I was very excited to hear that the director of special events and promotions for E! Entertainment, Wendy Schellinger, decided to throw an eco-friendly event at the Golden Globes! Not only that, but she partnered with a unique non-profit, Environmental Media Association, whose mission is to make Hollywood go green.

However, the reviews that I read were a bit disappointing - it seems that the event production team came up a bit short in hosting guests at the expense of being green. The venue was outdoors, and there were no heat lamps to provide warmth. Perhaps there were environmental considerations that stopped the much needed lamps from coming, but I find it hard to believe that there were no other alternatives that to leave guests in the cold. Tenting, fireplaces, or even luxe, handmade blankets from a local vendor could have at least insulated natural body heat and provided a unique atmosphere for the night.

It just goes to say, helping the environment and promoting a green lifestyle at events is wonderful...but the guests must always come first! And, really, who'd want to be green if it meant frostbite in LA?

But, of course, there are many stellar points about this Green Party:
1. Exposure for eco-friendly events to the media.
2. Take a look at that wonderful press wall!! It's made out of wood salvaged from the Great Salt Lake’s historic Lucin Cutoff. Very creative.
3. Tree People planted a tree for every guest that attended.
